Hawaiian Siesta

“Within Hawaii, “honohono grass” was used as medicine to aid with deep cuts. While other Hawaiian herbs just get superficial cuts, honohono grass is an herb to aid with deeper troubling issues.”

A 3-minute walk from Shin-Koenji Station, Honohono Cafe is a stylish little cafe at the south end of Koenji’s Look Shotengai. It’s got the standard collection of mismatched vintage chairs and tables. Some of which are very comfortable — evidence they really knew how to relax in the Seventies.

The first floor has three tables plus two seats at a window-side counter great for people-watching. Up a flight of steep and narrow stairs there are a few more tables.

Smoking is permitted on the first floor and it gets quite smokey if more than one person lights up. Hopefully they’ll change their policy soon — especially given that one of the servers is pregnant.

Good food, good atmosphere, good coffee and tea. A fine place to contemplate your deeper, troubling issues — or just enjoy a relaxing bite to eat.
